Over the course of a century, as four girls from different time periods experience their youth on a German farm, their lives become intertwined until time seems to dissolve.
The film weaves together a mosaic of lives across different decades, focusing on four adolescent girls—Alma (1910s), Erika (1940s, WWII), Angelika (1980s, East Germany/GDR), and Lenka (contemporary/2020s)—growing up within the same weathered walls. It explores the cyclical nature of womanhood, intergenerational trauma, systemic patriarchal oppression, isolation, and the quiet endurance of young women against the backdrop of Germany’s turbulent 20th-century history.
The film premiered in competition at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, where it won the Jury Prize. It was theatrically released in Germany by Neue Visionen on August 28, 2025. It swept the 76th German Film Awards, winning every of the 10 categories it was nominated for, including Best Film, Director, and Screenplay.
