This was reinforced by the fact that many counties taught those and other heritage languages in the public schools until effectively ended by anti-German hysteria and resurrection of the KKK in the WWI era. The initiatives for bilingual education and ballot translations some 50 years later were thus less of an innovation than a return to a 19th century tradition. \nThe presentation will be on Tuesday\, 10/13 at 7:00 p.m. \nThe link – https://tsha.wildapricot.org/event-6771664 – will also be posted at the German Texan Heritage Society’s site – https://www.germantexans.org/speaker-series – under Programs and Speaker Series. It explores the cyclical nature of womanhood\, intergenerational trauma\, systemic patriarchal oppression\, isolation\, and the quiet endurance of young women against the backdrop of Germany’s turbulent 20th-century history. \nThe film premiered in competition at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival\, where it won the Jury Prize. It was theatrically released in Germany by Neue Visionen on August 28\, 2025. It swept the 76th German Film Awards\, winning every of the 10 categories it was nominated for\, including Best Film\, Director\, and Screenplay. \nThe film is available here:\nhttps://www.amazon.com/gp/video/detail/amzn1.dv.gti.68e29b52-cc6e-4998-9d3a-21c92b64544c?ref_=atv_cf_strg_wb \nWatch the film before Thursday\, October 22\, then join the Zoom meeting at 7:00PM and come prepared with your comments and questions.
