The Texas German Dialect Project – Virtual Presentation of Dr. Hans Boas

The TGDP preserves the unique TX-German dialect which developed from the combination of dialects from across the Germanic regions of Europe brought by the 19th Century immigrants.

A professor of German and linguistics at the University of Texas at Austin, Dr. Boas received his Ph.D. in Linguistics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  Due to his research interests in endangered languages and dialects and foreign language education, he established the Texas German Dialect Project in 2001,  housed in the Department of Germanic Studies and the Linguistics Research Center.

The TGDP preserves the unique TX-German dialect which developed from the combination of dialects from across the Germanic regions of Europe brought by the 19th Century immigrants.  Dr. Boas will speak about the work of the TGDP in preserving this unique dialect which has also served as a model for other similar projects in various immigrant languages across the country and the German heritage curriculum project under development utilizing the TGDP resources.
