Look Who’s Back (German: Er ist wieder da) is a 2015 German satirical black comedy film directed by David Wnendt, and based on the eponymous bestselling satirical novel about Adolf Hitler by Timur Vermes (2012).

When Adolf Hitler reawakens at the site of his former bunker 70 years later, he finds fame and success as a comedian and becomes a media phenomenon.

In 2014, Adolf Hitler wakes up in a vacant lot in Berlin, with no memory of anything that happened after 1945. Homeless and destitute, he interprets everything he sees from a Nazi perspective and although everyone recognizes him, nobody believes that he is Hitler; instead, they think he is either a comedian, or a method actor. As a result, videos of his angry rants become hugely successful on YouTube, and he achieves modern celebrity status as a performer. In the end, he uses his popularity to go back to politics.

What starts out as a hilarious comedy gradually becomes a real reflection on the possibility that a modern Hitler could rise again in the heart of Europe.

In conclusion, David Wnendt as a director gives the right direction to his film that always looks terrifying no matter how funny it is. As for the performance, Oliver Masucci’s portrayal of Adolf Hitler is quite outstanding and maybe the best delivered in modern cinema.  David Wnendt’s piece is an educational, masterful, intelligent horror-comedy.
