Book Talk by German Author Barbara Ortwein

March 28 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Free

A book talk with live-music, book signing and an exhibition about the locations, historical backgrounds and the historical persons in Barbara Ortwein`s books. Barbara is the author of three historical novels about the immigration of the Germans to Texas and Oklahoma.

Her intensive research and genealogical work in Texas, Germany and in the former Indian Territory (today’s Oklahoma) resulted in her first book. “Between Worlds, Never to Return”, takes her fictional characters from the time in Germany when escape was perilous, 1844 – 1847, to the challenges they faced in the early settlement days in Texas.

Her second book “In the Heart of Texas But Not Yet at Home” follows showing what the German settlers had to deal with from 1847 to 1861.

The series ends with her third book At Journey’s End: Texans Forever! and concludes the Texas trilogy from 1865 to 1898. How the Germans overcame their struggles, put their mark in Texas, and were part of the betterment of the state.

As an author, Barbara Ortwein has entertained audiences all throughout Texas, Oklahoma, and Germany with her unique style of Book Talks. Interspersed in her presentation, she leads the audience in a sing-a-long with her guitar accompaniment of German and English songs relevant to her book’s theme.

The event will take place at First Unitarian Church in Dallas, room 301/3rd floor.
